Tim Melley

Profile

Tim Melley, Associate Professor of English and Director of the Cambridge Study Abroad Program, was educated at Amherst College, the University of Cambridge, and Cornell University, where he received both an M.F.A. in fiction and a Ph.D. in English literature. Before coming to Miami, he taught English at two high schools and the University of Washington. He is the author of Empire of Conspiracy: The Culture of Paranoia in Postwar America (Cornell, 2000).

His essays have appeared in many anthologies and journals, including as Story Quarterly, Contemporary Literature, Arizona Quarterly, Differences, and ESQ. Stories from a first collection have been published by The Threepenny Review, The Sun, Columbia, The Mississippi Review, and Epoch. They have also aired on Public Radio International's "This American Life" and received mention in The Best American Stories.

He is currently at work on a second book of stories and a study of trauma in recent American historical fiction.
