Steven Bauer

Steven Bauer received his B.A. from Trinity College in Connecticut and his M.F.A. from the University of Massachusetts.
He's the author of Satyrday (G.P. Putnam's), an ALA Best Book, Daylight Savings (Gibbs Smith), winner of the Peregrine Smith Poetry Prize, the novelization of The River , and two volumes of stories based on Steven Spielberg's TV anthology series Amazing Stories. He's also written two children's books, The Strange and Wonderful Tale of Robert McDoodle: The Boy Who Wanted to be a Dog (Simon & Schuster) and A Cat of a Different Color (Random House/Delacorte), winner of a Parents' Choice Award.
He's the recipient of fellowships from The Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, the Bread Loaf Writers' Conference, the Ossabaw Island Project, and the Indiana Arts Council. At Miami he's twice won the Student Government Association's Outstanding Professor Award, and is also the recipient of the Arts & Science Distinguished Educator Award, the E. Phillips Knox Award for excellence and innovation in undergraduate teaching, and the Effective Educator Award from the Miami University Alumni Association.
He is currently working on Fence, a novel about safety and limits -- those that are pressed upon us by others, and ones we self-enforce. He is also working on a book about the teaching of creative writing.
His passions include dogs, gardening, backpacking, and his wife, the writer Elizabeth Arthur.
