Creating Your Own Landscape Quilt
This goal of this intermediate workshop is to enable you to create a unique landscape quilt that reflects your own artistic interpretation of a favorite scene from nature, using fabric and scissors instead of canvasses and paints. This is primarily a studio class; you will work on your own scene at your own pace. Techniques require no measuring, templates or patterns. Some prior machine quilting experience (minimal) and a working knowledge of your sewing machine will be helpful. No prior art training is necessary, this is a creative experience with almost no rules.
Natalie Sewell has been a quilter for 16 years and has spent the last 14 of them making landscape quilts. Her quilts have won major prizes at many national quilt competitions including those sponsored by the American Quilter’s Society, Quilt Visions San Diego, and the National Quilters’ Association. Natalie has co-authored three books on her landscape techniques and has appeared numerous times on PBS’s “Sewing With Nancy.” Her newest book, The Art of Landscape Quilting, published by Krause Publications in March, 2007 and co-authored with Nancy Zieman is now available. She continues to show her quilts in galleries and quilt shows throughout the country. Her formal education includes: B.A. degree at University of California, at Berkeley; M.A. degree at University of South Carolina, Columbia, S.C.; and extensive additional graduate studies (A.B.D.) at University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI.
