Advanced Enameling & Settings

This course will cover a variety of enameling techniques such as basse taille, champlevé and cloisonné. Students will also learn how to acid etch copper using press and peel paper and ferric chloride acid. They will further enhance the etched metal with transparent enamel. Setting techniques such as tabs, bezels and tube rivets and metalsmithing techniques that are appropriate for enameling will also be covered.

Adrienne M. Grafton is currently living in Harmony, PA and working in The Studio Situation on Pittsburgh’s North Side. She earned a MFA in Metal Design from East Carolina University in 2005 and a BFA from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania in 2000. Her recent work, inspired by emotions and memories, is fabricated jewelry made of silver, gold, copper and brass and adorned with gemstones, pearls and enamel. Her work has been published in The Art of Enameling, 1000 Rings, 500 Necklaces, 500 Earrings and 500 Chairs. Adrienne worked as the Metals Studio Coordinator at Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina from 2005 to 2007 and taught metals at Edinboro University from 2008-2010. She currently teaches at the Community College of Allegheny County in Pittsburgh and travels on the east coast teaching workshops. Gallery
