Building Rustic Furniture

If you enjoy nature, think trees are beautiful, and have a bit of whimsey in your personality, then this workshop is for you! Working with natural forms, students will us simple tools to create a variety of furniture such as garden structures, chairs, tables and headboards. Basic methods of rustic joinery, wood gathering, drying and finishing will be explored. Historical and contemporary examples of rustic furniture and furniture makers will also be available as well as daily demonstrations. No previous woodworking experience is necessary and participants should have normal strength and eye/hand coordination.

Liz Hunt has been making rustic furniture for the past 21 years and her work has been exhibited throughout Ohio and in Canada. It has been published in numerous rustic furniture books and magazines such as Woodwork and Columbus Monthly. Her work has appeared in a nationally syndicated TV show (As The World Turns) as well as at the White House. Liz has conducted workshops and given presentations on rustic furniture for various groups including the Ohio Craft Museum, Conover Workshops, and Red Deer College, Alberta. Over the years, her work has evolved from traditional to more contemporary one-of-a-kind forms and has been described as “whimsical,” “original,” and “sculptural.” Liz currently lives and works on a small farm in Delaware, Ohio.
