Beginning Wheel Throwing
This workshops is for those with little or no previous experience in ceramics or for those wishing to refresh their skills with clay. Learn the basics of throwing on the potter's wheel. You will learn to make a variety of shapes from bowls and bottles to pitchers and mugs using the basic skills of centering, pulling up the pot wall, collaring, trimming and pulling handles. There will be lots of demonstrations daily as well as digital presentations of exemplary work.
BILL HUNT is perhaps most widely known for his editorship of Ceramics Monthly magazine for more than a decade. He has been a resident artist at the Archie Bray Foundation (Helena, Montana), and a full-time studio potter. For the past 8 years he has taught ceramics and ceramic art history at Columbus College of Art & Design (Ohio). An artist for more than 40 years, Hunt has exhibited his ceramics in many prestigious regional, national and international exhibitions. His work has been included in more than 60 different articles and books nationally and internationally. In addition to teaching, Hunt has conducted workshops around the country, juried and curated multiple exhibitions including the “21st Century Ceramics in the United States and Canada,” and authored a long list of publications. His current work with handbuilt and thrown porcelain, bone china or stoneware vessels reflects an interest in the various grasses found on his farm in Delaware, Ohio, drawn or painted in cobalt underglaze and overglaze.
