Photography in a Digital World
The focus of the course is the development of a personal photographic vision through a series of specific shooting exercises. Exercises include experimentation with artificial and natural lighting, indoor and outdoor settings and portraiture. Shooting will be done in both automatic and manual camera modes. Camera controls including white balance, on camera flash and film speed will also be covered. The diverse and picturesque Miami campus will serve as our shooting location, providing daily opportunities to explore with the camera. Image import and basic Photoshop workflow will conclude the workshop.
Noted requirements: A digital Single Lens Reflex camera is preferred, however, a 35mm "point & shoot" 6 mega pixel or larger camera with adjustable controls is acceptable. Good walking shoes are a must! You will cover a fair amount of ground in your campus excursions.
David Rosenthal has taught Photography in the School of Fine Arts at the University of Cincinnati since 2003. His teaching experience ranges from introductory level conventional and digital film courses to graduate level courses. He took on photography as a second profession after receiving a law degree and practicing products liability law for several years. His work consists of distinct series of conceptually driven projects, which consist of a hybrid of film and digital processes, mixed media and creative writing. David also runs a gallery and community photography program in Cincinnati called Prairie. He has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions, including shows at Soho Photo Gallery in New York, The Weston Art Gallery in Cincinnati and The Riffe Gallery in Columbus. Gallery
