General Info

What is CraftSummer?

CraftSummer is a unique educational opportunity in today’s increasingly detached, mass-produced world. Our hands-on, experiential approach, small class sizes and exceptional instructors create an environment fostering creativity and artistic exploration. Whether you are a novice making your first attempts into art or a working art professional, you will find a welcoming and encouraging community.

Classes are offered in a variety of media, and can be taken for university credit or as non-credit. We have weekend and weeklong workshops. Classes have a limit between 12 to15 students to insure individualized attention.

When is CraftSummer?

Workshops will be held during Miami University's Summer Term II: June 13 - July 14, 2011. CraftSummer begins June 10 and ends on July 8, 2011.

Who may attend CraftSummer?

Anyone eighteen years old or older with a high school diploma or its equivalent may register. Looking for a Youth Program? Follow this site to review teen workshops at Miami's Summer Arts Institue or contact Geoff Riggle, School of Fine Arts Team Camp Director, at rigglegw@muohio.edu or 513/529-2065.

Skill levels

Most courses are for "all levels," meaning the class is suited for students at beginning, intermediate or advanced ability levels. Some classes declare a particular level - beginning, intermediate or advanced. It is important for students to register for the class that meets their experience level in a given medium.

What time do classes meet?

Our 5-day classes meet from 8:30-5:00, Monday through Thursday and from 8:30 am until 2 pm on Friday.

Week 4 will be held from July 5 to July 8, 2011 with classes from 8:30 am until 5:00 pm.

Weekend workshops meet Friday from 6 - 9 pm, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm on Saturday, and 8:30 am - 3:30 pm on Sunday.

Studios are open evenings and students are encouraged to use that time to develop skills and complete assignments.

Our Mission:

The CraftSummer workshop program is designed to strengthen creativity, develop personal expression, and provide a sense of community among people interested in art, design and the crafts. It is a chance to meet with others who have the same interests but who have different approaches in specific techniques and forms of expression.

When can I register?

Registration for workshops begins on Tuesday, January 25, 2011.
