ITAR and EAR Export-Controlled Materials Decision Tree and Certification

If you work inside the U.S. with foreign persons (e.g. graduate students), if you work outside of the U.S., or if you are sending materials or information to persons outside of the U.S., you may be subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the Export Administration Regulations (EAR). If you are working with technologies that are potentially covered by ITAR and EAR regulations, you should investigate this issue.

The form accessed below is designed to help guide researchers in determining the applicability of Export Control regulations and laws to their research activities. If during completion of the form you find that you are directed to contact OARS, we will assist you in determining what procedures or permits will allow you to proceed with your work while not violating export control laws.

In addition, completing the form and submitting it to OARS will help demonstrate your knowledge and appreciation of concerns regarding sensitive technologies should regulators ever investigate your work or the research program at Miami. Therefore, submitting the form even when it indicates that EC regulations do not apply in your situtation, is to your benefit.
