The Speech Communication major may choose to focus in one of two areas: organizational communication and interpersonal/relational communication.
The focus in organizational communication trains you in both oral and written communication, teaching you to use these skills to increase the effectiveness of an organization in such areas as human resources, personnel administration, training and consulting, sales, and management. Courses emphasize the total quality management approach. The program combines a strong liberal arts education with communication and business-related course work, which enables you to think critically and effectively in the business environment. Organizational communication is also good preparation for graduate school.
The focus in interpersonal/relational communication is for students interested in face-to-face communication in individual and group settings. This focus is for students who want to work in helping/service professions or continue on to graduate school.
