Undergraduate Programs: Mass Communication

Undergraduate Mass Communication

Mass Communication is the study of the processes of electronic media. It includes areas such as audio and video production, electronic media management, international media, media criticism, electronic media writing, broadcast journalism, mass media law and management, multimedia, and audience analysis. Because program requirements are in flux, please consult your advisor for the requirements that apply to you.

The Mass Communication Area is housed in Williams Hall. In addition to offices and classrooms, the building contains extensive production facilities, including two video studios, eight video editing suites, three audio production suites, one audio production studio, and a computerized news writing lab. The building also houses WMUB-FM, Miami's 30,000-watt public radio station. Mass Communication students also have access to numerous electronic field production units. Undergraduate Mass Communication students at Miami University work towards a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Mass Communication; graduate students pursue a Master of Arts (M.A) degree. All programs are flexible and highly individualized to the needs of each student.
