Special Programs
Internships
The Department of Communication provides
academic credit internship opportunities juniors and seniors who
are the top students in the program. Speech communication students
intern in areas such as public relations, advertising, human resource
management, training, sales, and government. Mass communication
majors have internship opportunities in broadcasting, cable, promotions,
sales, advertising, public relations, or industrial communication.
Student goals, interests, and preparation are matched with the needs
of the employers. Students in communication generally view a well-structured
internship as one of their most valuable experiences in college. A
well-structured internship has clearly defined responsibilities for
the student, the industry supervisor ("employer"), and the
faculty supervisor. It also entails regular communication by the faculty
supervisor with the student intern and the industry supervisor. A
maximum of 16 semester hours may be granted for all internship participation
in the Department.
Guidelines and application forms are available in 162 Bachelor and 120 Williams Hall.
