Master of Arts in Speech Communication
The Department of Communication offers a two-year M.A. degree in speech communication. The study of speech communication at Miami is grounded in a number of broad perspectives including social scientific and humanistic theory and methodology. These perspectives are applied to communication processes in numerous contexts, including interpersonal relationships, small groups, organizations, and public settings.
The focus of graduate study in speech communication at Miami University prepares students for:
• doctoral studies in communication or related fields
• teaching at the college or university level
• careers requiring an enhanced understanding of communication theory, such as consulting, training, management, and public relations.
Application Procedures
To complete your application to the speech communication MA program, submit the
materials listed below. We begin extending offers March 1. To receive
maximum consideration, submit all materials by February 15.
• Complete Graduate School application and pay fee.
• Submit GRE scores to Miami University
Submit the following materias to Lisa McLughlin at the address below.
• three letters of recommendation
• personal goal statement (1 page)
• writing sample (3-5 pages)
• cover letter indicating if you want to be considered for a teaching assistantship
