Web Update:
Jesse Murphy, the new webmaster, has been checking links and making design changes to the CHDLT web site. He has also been trying to contact Faculty Associates to create links to their personal web sites, or help them create their web page if they don’t have one. He will contact Dr Hennon to begin constructing the Family Support site.
Funded Proposals:
Dr Constantinidou’s NIH grant was funded ($213,000) to continue research on the Effects of Categorization Training after Traumatic Brain Injury. She is currently looking for residential treatment centers, with the option of expanding the focus of the project to outpatient rehabilitation. She was congratulated on the success of her proposal. Indirect cost recovery funds should be coming to CHDLT from both the Research Office and the College of Arts and Sciences.
J. Wanko reported on the status of his grant, “Reaching Academic Mathematic Proficiency” (RAMP), which was funded for $122,000 from the Ohio Board of Regents last January. Dr. Wanko explained that Hamilton teachers involved in study have already met with Miami instructors at three afternoon sessions in the spring and one week long seminar this summer, with five more sessions scheduled this fall. The project has been visited by a representative of the state and he has been encouraged to submit a new grant in October.
Potential Conference:
G. Peterson proposed Miami as a future site of the International Conference on Family Strengths. The seminar explores how families from different cultures cope with stressors from everyday hassles to crises. CHDLT will investigate cost and logistics, and explore bringing the founder of the conference, John Defrain, to Miami to learn more details. Motion to invite John Defrain to Miami was approved (Wolfe, Harris).
Development/Research Office Approval Process for Foundation Grant Proposals: Bergen discussed with Dean Lloyd the issue of how to get approval to send CHDLT grant proposals to foundations. Lloyd will try to clarify this question. The board suggested that personnel from OARS be invited to our next meeting.
Fall Research Discussion:
There will be a fall research discussion session scheduled with Harris and Potteiger presenting.
Appointment of Co-Director
CHDLT will revise its administrative structure with the appointment of a co-director. A motion to approve Dr. Wolfe as co-director of CHDLT was passed unanimously (Bergen, Harris). Dr. Hennon will continue as associate director for Family Supports.
New Faculty Associates
Motion to approve faculty members Jones, Swartz, Stone and Dantley as Faculty Associates was passed unanimously (Harris, Wolfe). Dantley has agreed to be EDL representative on the board and Wanko has agreed to be EDT representative.
Meeting adjourned 12:30.
NEXT MEETING IS TUESDAY, OCTOBER 26TH AT 11:15.
