Potential Proposals: Wanko submitted a proposal for continued funding for the RAMP for $200,000. Jones, Wickstrom and Therrien submitted a request for funding for reading literacy. Boxey’s proposal is for teacher improvement in early childhood education, and Wolfe and Britt requested funding from the Department of Education to continue their research.

The construction is being completed on McGuffey Hall, and the location for the Center office has been decided. The original space on 4th floor that was designated for the Center is not available because that space will be used for library staff swing space. The Center will be located in a first floor office; there is access from the hallway but the door does not open directly on to the hallway.
Dantley reviewed the efforts being made to create a more definitive outline of Miami partnerships with area school districts. The plan will provide structure and organization to how partnerships are created. There are focus groups for faculty members to discuss their perceptions of partnerships which are scheduled for November 18 and 23.
Gil Pacey from the Research Office spoke to the Board on the best methods to identify possible funding sites that will not interfere with the Capital Campaign. He stated that typically the proposals that are for research and scholarly pursuit or those with some sort of deliverable, such as a report or published article, are not the requests that threaten the Capital Campaign. Any foundation gifts must be approved by the Research Office and/or Ron Kelly. Pacey also mentioned that researchers have access to grant writers for interdisciplinary proposals, or grant polishers who add comments and make suggestions.
Meeting adjourned at 1:00.
