Research Discussion Update and Planning
Members that attended the October 30th Research Discussion gave positive feedback about the session, and plans were made for future Discussions. These changes include finding a new location for the group, and expanding the audience to include students invited by faculty members. With Dr Wolfe and Dr Costantinidou scheduled as speakers for the next session, future discussions are proposed for February and April, but confirmed dates and times are yet to be decided.
Web Page Update
Sophomore Hannah Farrin will take over as the new webmaster for CHDLT. A meeting will be scheduled with Dr Wolfe, Dr Bergen, Hannah, Alison Stanton (current webmaster) and Denise Sorah to transition the position.
Family Supports Update
Hennon reports that the National Council of Family Relations is interested in hosting some of the information being gathered for the new FSW 620 class on their website. He also stated that he has a full class of students interested.
Update on Proposal Development and Submission
The Improving Teacher Quality proposal, with Jeff Wanko serving as PI, was submitted on Nov 6. The NIH proposal with PHS involving research on changing physical activity in children, with PI Jeff Potteiger, was submitted on Nov 12. A grant written by Speech Pathology faculty who will be working with primary educators on linguistics and early literacy will be revised with input from Dr Boxey and Dr Southern. Dr Berger and Dr Wang are looking for a source for their proposal, and Dr Shore has contacted Spencer as a potential source for her proposal.
New Potential Proposals
New possible grant proposals were dispersed to interested parties. These include grants related to reading, mental health, youth violence, and development and learning.
Faculty Associates
Several individuals were suggested as potential Faculty Advisors, pending their agreement to participate.
There was a motion to enlarge the Board to reflect the variety of interests and projects under the auspices of the Center (Wolfe, Teets). Motion passed.
Advisory Committee Meeting Date
It was decided that the Advisory Committee will be invited to the February Research Discussion with their meeting to immediately follow. (Date yet undecided)
