Center for Human Development, Learning, and Teaching Executive Board Meeting Minutes Feb. 12, 2004
Members present: D. Bergen, Y. Harris, C. Hennon, J. Potteiger,
J. Teets, A. Wang, C. Wolfe, and D. Sorah (GA).
Minutes approved (Wolfe, Teets)
Meeting commenced at 12:30
Research Discussion
The Faculty Research Discussion was Feb 11th, so feedback was given from those present. They agreed more time was spent on the actual presentation than on discussion, but due to time constraints presented by faculty schedules the duration of the discussion cannot be extended. The next presentation is planned for some time in April, with tentative speakers as Richard Luftig, Fofi Constantinidou, Anne Britt, or Yvette Harris. After deciding the speaker and date, flyers will be sent out similar to previous discussions indicating location and time.
Advisory Committee
In order to get ideas and input from the Advisory Board, Executive members discussed the possibility of individual lunch dates with Advisory members rather than a large meeting. Available Executive Board members could attend one or several of these lunches. The first lunch is Friday, Feb. 27th at 11:30.
Family Supports
Hennon states he is checking old links to make sure they are still active as well as adding new sites. His students have identified topics, and are evaluating various web sites for examples. Topics include bullying, Grandparents raising children, advice for young men on dating, parents relating to teens on the topic of sexuality, involvement of incarcerated fathers, and childhood obesity. He expects the web page will be ready around summer.
Web site
There have been updates to the CHDLT web site, including faculty information and lists, and future changes include links to Dragonfly and PHS.
Proposals
The Improving Teacher Quality grant with PI Jeff Wanko was funded for $122,266. This grant will focus on improving math skills for teachers in Hamilton. Constantinidou was asked for further paperwork for her NIH proposal submitted last May. Spring submissions are waiting for funding news.
CHDLT Newsletter
The newsletter is being compiled and members were asked to send their publication and funding achievements to Sorah as soon as possible.
Meeting adjourned at 1:30
Next meeting scheduled for March 11th, at 12:30.
