Executive Board Meeting Minutes Sept. 17, 2002

Members present: L. Sherman, C. Paternite, D. Bergen, C. Hennon, J. Teets, C. Wolfe, A. Wang.

Meeting began at 12:30 p.m.

Approval of Minutes:

Chose Tuesday, October 15th at 12:30p.m. as next meeting time.

Update on web page:

Alison showed the current web page and provided examples of how members could either link their own homepage to the site or have a web page created.

Update on Projects, New and Ongoing:

Wolfe explained his new project: "Improving the Comprehension and Construction of Arguments" whose funding comes from the U.S. Department of Education. Wolfe's total grant is $179,444 and a G. A. is funded from this grant. Wolfe is collaborating with Dr. Anne Britt from Northern Illinois University. The total grant amount is $358,888.

Bergen and Wang have started a new evaluation project, iDiscovery. The grant amount is $20,000 and a modified G. A. is funded from it.

Teets reported that she is coauthoring an article based on last year's Side by Side mentoring evaluation.

Luftig is continuing Spectra+,a project at the Fitton center in Hamilton. There is a G. A. funded from this grant.

Bergen continues to work on the evaluation for the Dragonfly Inquiry project. There is a G. A. funded for this project.

Paternite reported that this will be the last year of the mental health grant for which the CHDLT is doing an evaluation.

Bergen is in the next phase of coding tapes for her rescue hero play study.

Wolfe indicated that Alison Stanton is now editing the Dragonfly web page.

Exploration of Collaboration with Center for Family Studies:

A discussion was held with Chuck Hennon, director of the CFS as to whether this center could link up with CHDLT or do collaborative work.

Hennon described projects of and funding for Center for Family Studies. The center has funds for a lecture series or book. Bergen and Hennon propose to explore the possibility further. Motion was made to appoint Hennon as a CHDLT faculty associate to represent the CFS on the Executive Board. (Wolfe, Teets), Passed unanimously.

Advisory Committee Meeting:

Members agreed to have the Advisory Board Meeting directly after the Executive Board Meeting, October 15 at 1:30p.m..

Other Business:

Bergen asked for proposals for new faculty associates.
