Approval of Minutes:
Tentative day and time for next semester's meetings were discussed.
Motion was made to approve minutes. (Hennon, Sherman), passed unanimously.
Discussion about Center for Family Studies
A discussion was held about the details of the merger of the Center for Family Studies with the Center for Human Development Learning and Teaching. A number of changes to develop the joining of the centers were identified:
CHDLT mission statement to incorporate a stronger family component.
Add information to CHDLT web page about family component and new link to more details on family page.
Add associate director position.
Have Family Center budget available for family component activities.
On grants initiated by family component, divide 10% ICR equally between CHDLT general and CHDLT family component.
Activities in which the family component of the CHDLT will be involved
Begin proposal for conference in Ireland.
Get CFS students linked to CHDLT to help them work with populations with special needs.
Start developing a lecture series on family studies component.
Consider new faculty to enrich family studies component.
Steps to incorporating the family component into the CHDLT
Make final draft of proposal - Bergen/Hennon
Send to CHDLT Board for review
Presentation to Dean, with copies to chairs of EDP + FSW
Complete actions necessary at university level.
After discussion, the motion to incorporate a family studies component in the manner discussed was approved unanimously (Wolfe, Sherman).
Update on Web Page
Constantinidous's page is up; rest of board will be linked shortly.
Update on Funded Projects
Wolfe indicated that he is currently collecting data for his argumentation project. Data is also being collected at the collaborating institution, Northern Illinois University.
Wang explained that surveys for the iDiscovery project are being distributed and collected. Also, the control group has been selected.
Bergen indicated that the Dragonfly Inquiry project will be finished in December and that the three year Fitton Center project continues.
Connection to Mini University
Bergen explained that she attended the Mini University Advisory Board meeting and discussed the idea of the CHDLT playing a consultative role with the directors of the child center. Since there are many issues needing to be resolved at the center, further connections will await those resolutions.
Other Updates
Bergen indicated the CHDLT newsletter will come out in January.
The next meeting will be in January after a date has been set.
