Executive Board Meeting Minutes March 28, 2003

Members Present: D. Bergen, F. Constantinidou, C. Wolfe, L. Sherman, C. Hennon, P. Frato (G. A.), and A. Stanton (WM).

Meeting commenced at 11:00 a.m.

Center Move

Bergen explained that the new/temporary CHDLT office is room 167 McGuffey. The office contains 2 work tables, video equipment, 3 file cabinets, and a computer.

CHDLT/FCSC Merger

Bergen indicated that the CHDLT/FCSC merger document had been sent to Dean Schirmer and that the Dean would write a memo formally establishing the merger. Bergen indicated that now changes can be made in the center to reflect the addition of a family supports component. Bergen indicated that the initial changes would be an addition to the Center mission statement and the appointment of Hennon as Associate Director.

Hennon's appointment as Associate Director was approved (Wolfe, Sherman).

Web Page Update

Bergen will e-mail Executive Board members and Faculty Associates asking for updates to their Vitae and relay the information to Stanton. Also, Wolfe's grant, the minutes for the last two Executive Board meetings, and information on the Center's new family supports component need to be added to the web page.

Addition of Faculty Associates

Bergen motioned to approve two new faculty associates: A. Berger and K. Wickstrom. Approved (Wolfe, Hennon)

Faculty Associates' Participation/Non-Participation

In regard to Faculty Associates' participation/non-participation, Constantinidou recommended sending a letter out inquiring as to whether members wanted to be in the Center, what would be a good way to support each other and encourage participation/cooperation, and how the Center could increase their involvement. Constantinidou also suggested asking in the letter whether the faculty associates' would be willing to present their work at a brown bag meeting.

Newsletter

Board Members thanked Frato for his good work on the Newsletter. Bergen reported that she has received little feedback about it.

New Proposals/Grants

Two proposals were successfully electronically submitted to the U.S. Department of Education. On one (cognitive science) C. Shore is P.I. and on the other (reading comprehension) A. Wang and A. Berger are co-P.I.

Bergen reported that T. Southern, a new full professor of Learning Disabilities and Gifted Education, may be interested in working on a reading grant.

Other Business

Wolfe proposed the addition of Anne Britt from Northern Illinois as Center Faculty Affiliate. Approved (Wolfe, Sherman).

Board members who know of other possible affiliates are encouraged to submit names and Vitae.
