Part-Time Educators Program (PEP)
We all have expertise in the subject matter that we teach. But how much of it are students actually learning? This is where CELTUA can assist and be especially beneficial to part-time educators. CELTUA programs deal with teaching techniques and methods for enhancing the learning process. CELTUA brings presenters with nationwide credentials on scholarly teaching methods to lead seminars and workshops. CELTUA also hosts programs through which members of the Miami community can meet and exchange ideas and tips, as well as address problems which arise in teaching. And CELTUA maintains a library offering the latest publications on college teaching.
The CELTUA library, workshops and seminars are open and available to all faculty/educators without charge. (In fact, most include lunch or refreshments depending upon the time of day.) CELTUA events also provide a great way to meet other faculty on an informal basis.
Beginning with the 2008-2009 academic year part-time faculty will be able to earn up to $300 from the Center for the Enhancement of Learning, Teaching, and University Assessment. CELTUA is offering all part-timers the opportunity to establish a PEP Account with CELTUA, and receive $25 for each CELTUA workshop or seminar they attend.
PEP funds can be used for travel to out-of-town academic functions, for software, or any other materials used in teaching. Popular items that have been purchased by faculty through similar programs have included digital cameras, i-Pods, ink and photographic paper for printers, and specialized software. A number of faculty have also combined the funds with grants and funds from other sources to travel to conventions and meetings in their disciplines. For information on upcoming seminars, visit the CELTUA Seminar Calendar for session titles, times, and discrptions. If you have any questions, contact CELTUA at celt@muohio.edu or 513-529-9266.
