How do I make an appointment with a career advisor?
Call Career Services at 529-3831. The receptionist will help you select a convenient time. To help the advisor prepare for your visit, the receptionist will ask your year-in-school, your major, and what assistance you need (e.g., your resume, a cover letter, or just general job-search assistance).
How long are appointments?
Appointments are scheduled for 45 minutes. They may be shorter, however, depending on the type of assistance you need.
Do I need to sign up for workshops in advance?
No, you do not need to sign up for workshops in advance. To learn what workshops and programs are sponsored by Career Services, click here.
Interviewing & Recruiting
How do I sign up for a mock interview?
Just call or stop by Career Services to sign up. We ask that you dress professionally and bring a copy of your resume to the interview.
Should I skip class for an interview?
No. Career Services strongly encourages students to schedule interviews outside of class times. Career Services cannot grant permission nor excuse an absence from class. When there is a time conflict, it is up to students to make arrangements to seek permission from professors/instructors in advance of the interview.
Why don't more non-business employers recruit at Career Services?
While a large variety of employers hire brand new college graduates, relatively few actively recruit on college campuses. On-campus recruiting is a very expensive undertaking for some employers who have neither the personnel nor the financial resources to visit college campuses. This is particularly true for employers with limited openings and in fields where the supply of applicants significantly exceeds the number of jobs available. Depending upon the field(s) you are interested in, you may find that strategies other than on-campus recruiting may work best for you. Again, our advisors can help you map out a plan for your job search or internship search that is tailored to your particular needs.
