What is Career Services?
Miami University Career Services offers programs and services to help students in the process of making career-related decisions.
Career Services assists students who have not yet determined career goals, including choosing a major and preliminary career decisions, as well as helps students implement career goals once they have been formulated. The following services are available:

On-Campus Interview Program
- Career Counseling
- Students may meet with a professional counselor to receive individual guidance on how to identify appropriate careers and majors.
- eDiscover
- A computer-assisted career guidance program enabling students to assess skills, interests, and values. The results are then matched to careers and majors. This program also contains information on approximately 2,500 different careers.
- Peer Counseling
- Trained undergraduate Career Assistants provide peer counseling on a walk-in basis. They help students navigate the many Career Services resources, understand computer testing results, or offer ideas on majors and careers for consideration.
- EDL 100
- A two-credit course that allows students having difficulty choosing a major or finding a career to systematically go through the career exploration process. Students learn about themselves through assessments, explore options, and identify possible careers and majors. This course is typically offered to first- and second-year students.
- EDL 302
- A course designed for juniors and seniors to assist them in making the transition from college to the world-of-work. Resume building, cover letters, job search strategies, and interviewing skills are a few of the learning outcomes.
- Career Testing
- Several widely recognized assessment instruments are available and the results are interpreted by a professional counselor.
- Outreach/Programming
- A variety of outreach programs are available upon request to campus groups (i.e., residence halls, classes, clubs, etc.). Descriptions of common programs are provided on the CETC Web site.
- Career Advising
- Individual assistance is available on:

- resume preparation
- job-search correspondence
- the graduate school application process
- internship opportunities, and related topics
- Workshops & Group Sessions
- A variety of programs are scheduled throughout the academic year that cover such topics as:
- resumes & cover letters
- job-search strategies
- interviewing techniques
- planning for graduate school
- internships and more
- Career Fair
- Held every September, this is one of the largest collegiate career fairs in the country. More than 150 employers ranging from Procter & Gamble to the Peace Corps are available to discuss career options within their organizations.
- Internship Services
- A variety of services and programs are provided to students seeking internship experiences, including an online database listing hundreds of internship opportunities and the Spring Internship & Career Expo (Spring ICE) held each year in February.
- On-Campus Interview Program
- Each year, 300-350 organizations visit campus to interview students for entry-level positions. Many of these employers also interview intern candidates.
- Miami CAREERlink
- Career Services maintains a Web-based database of its registrants for review by prospective employers. Both employers who actively recruit on campus, and those who are unable to visit Miami, use the Candidate Database to identify potential candidates for employment or internships. Numerous employers use Miami CAREERlink to pre-screen students for their on-campus recruiting visits.
- Mock Interview Service
- Trained interviewers conduct digitally recorded mock interviews and critiques throughout the year.
- Career Resource Center
- Located on-campus in Hoyt Hall, this library houses:
- employer literature
- employer listings and directories
- job vacancy information
- internship files and summer job information
- videos, and general career information
- Web-Based Resources
- Career Services has an extensive Web site which provides additional information on all of the above services. Numerous career and job-search Internet sites are also linked.
