Because Miami University is an agency of the State of Ohio, liability claims against the university must be submitted to the Ohio Court of Claims. Claims for $2500 or less are determined administratively by the clerk of the court solely on the contents of the case file. Civil actions against Miami University for greater than $2500 are determined by a judge. The form of the complaint and practice and procedure are governed by the Ohio Rules of Civil Procedure and by the Local Rules of the Court of Claims of Ohio.
Information on filing a claim with the Court of Claims is available at the Court’s web site. Forms and instructions are available for download at that site, or from the Director of Business Services at 529-4225.
