After graduating from the BATSC program in 1999, I became employed as a technical writer for Attachmate, a software development company in Cincinnati. While I had to learn processes and procedures unique to the company, I found that my education had prepared me well, providing me with the necessary skills to manage my assigned projects successfully. In addition to creating both print and online documentation, I was responsible for all the graphics in our publications. Deciding to take advantage of my employer’s education benefits, I joined the MTSC program on a part-time basis in the fall of 2000. After the events of 9/11 and the resulting downturn in the economy forced Attachmate to close its Cincinnati office, I chose to attend school full-time and finish my MTSC degree.

The MTSC program has enhanced my BATSC education through its emphasis on management, rhetorical theory, and business communication and a broader perspective on how technical communication adds value to an organization. Currently, I am looking forward to winter break and eagerly anticipating the completion of the next (and final) semester. I am excited about taking my new knowledge and experience with me back into the workforce and applying all that I’ve learned. While the profession of technical and scientific communication allows me to combine language skills with my interest in computers, it also represents a practical and challenging field that is growing ever more diverse and promises to play an important role in the expanding field of technology.
