Prospective Students
By reading the information on this web site, you will find out about the required
and suggested courses for the major, the procedure for applying to the major,
and what to do once you are accepted.
To determine if this major is right for you, first consider whether or not
you have one or both of the following professional goals:
- To pursue
a career in writing or editing in a specific scientific or technical
field
- To prepare
for graduate work in scientific or technical communication
Careers
Depending on the scientific or technical field you choose, as a graduate of
this major, you will be able to use desktop publishing to write and edit
a variety of communications for the computer science, environmental,
or medical/health fields.
Examples
of careers in these fields include:
- Writing
print or online communications for computer hardware or software
developers
- Helping
scientists prepare journal articles
- Preparing
newsletters, brochures, articles, or reports for the lay and technical
audiences of hospitals or environmental firms
You might
also decide on advanced study and obtain a masters
or doctorate degree in technical and scientific communication. |
