Leisure Activities

Leisure Activities

The Art Center's ceramic, metals, photography and woodworking studios are open for students, Miami faculty and staff, and the community to use for leisure time pursuits. Hours of operation vary, but both daytime and evening studio times are normally available. Participants in Art Center activities must be at least 18 years old.

Knowledgeable monitors oversee each area to answer users' questions, but if you are a newcomer to an area and find you need detailed instruction, we suggest you sign up for one of our sprint courses.

Membership

Art Center membership is available for a fee of $45 per academic year. Please contact us about our student rates. To join, please drop by during daytime business hours for a tour of our facility. If you're not available during daytime hours, you may download our membership form and mail it to us along with your payment. Contact us at 513/529-7395 or artcenter@muohio.edu for further assistance.

Safety concerns dictate the following special conditions in the woodshop:

All shop users must attend a safety orientation. These sessions last about an hour and are usually scheduled at the start of each semester. Enrollment in the woodworking sprint (ART170) satisfies the orientation requirement.

Noise can be a major problem in the shop, particularly sound from the surface planer. For this reason, we ask that all lumber brought into the shop be surfaced planed elsewhere. Most lumber suppliers will gladly surface rough stock for a modest fee.
