Alumnus, Ambassador Speaks to Students

Carlo Krieger (right) speaks with one of his former professorsAnthropology is a skill that teaches students how to integrate knowledge, and students should explain this to prospective employers, said Miami anthropology alumnus Carlo Krieger '81.

Krieger, who is now the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg's envoy to China, Mongolia and Pakistan spoke to students and faculty Feb. 22. In his talk, entitled "From Anthropologist to Diplomat," Krieger described how anthropology shaped his life and experiences in the civil service, and spoke about his most recent posting in China.

Krieger received a PhD in anthropology from the University of Vienna for ethnohistorical research into contact between Native Americans and European missionaries.

The talk was part of the Anthropology Department's Lectures in Contemporary Anthropology series.
