Marchant in Science Article

Dr. Linda MarchantProf. Linda Marchant was among several primatologists featured in a new article on primate tool use in the magazine Science News. The article noted a recent study that supported Marchant's 1995 claim for limited right-handedness among wild chimpanzees, as opposed to the amidexterity observed in captive chimpanzees.

“A full-scale project [on handedness among primates] really needs to be done,” Marchant is quoted as saying.

The article, "Aping the Stone Age" explores current efforts by primatologists to use tool use by living primates as a window into the evolution of tool use. Former Miami anthropologist William McGrew (now at Cambridge University) is also featured in the story.

The story appears in the Nov. 21 issue of the magazine.
