Anthropology Affiliate Wins Leadership Award
The Women’s Leadership Celebration and Symposium Committee selected Anthropology Department Affiliate Professor Alysia Fischer as the recipient of the 2009 Kathy McMahon Klosterman Award for her dedication to the advancement of women within the Miami University community.
The award is presented to those "who have distinguished themselves in their respective communities and organizations as advocates for equality and models of leadership. Through their personal and professional commitments, these individuals have challenged societal norms, expectations, and the limitations of gender roles" according to the Committee's award letter.Dr. Fischer received the award Friday, October 23 at the 2009 Women's Leadership Symposium and Celebration luncheon. The symposium, now in its 9th year, celebrated Miami's bicentennial with the theme "Looking Back, Leaping Forward: Changing Legacies of Women's Leadership" in honor of Miami's Bicentennial.
Dr. Alysia Fischer is a Visiting Assistant Professor at the Center for American and World Cultures and an affiliate in the Department of Anthropology. She is the author of Hot Pursuit: Integrating Anthropology in Search of Ancient Glassblowers.
