Kasberg Wins Goldman Prize

Anthropology major Brad Kasberg won this year’s Joanna Jackson Goldsmith Memorial Prize, one of Miami’s most prestigious awards.
Kasberg, a member of the Miami Nation of Indiana, will use the $30,000 award spend working with the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma to develop a sustainable land use plan that will address the cultural, ecological, and economic needs of the tribe.
New Teaching Laboratories Celebrated

The Anthropology Department celebrated the official opening of its new teaching laboratories in 180 Upham Hall on Feb. 3.
Anthropology faculty, staff and students, were joined by many friends of the department to celebrate the opening, including Miami President Hodge and Mrs. Hodge, Dean Phyllis Callahan and Sue Henry of Miami's Board of Trustees.
Marchant Appointed Altman Scholar
Submitted by petersm2 on February 18, 2012 - 1:00amDr. Linda Marchant was selected as an Altman Scholar for the 2012-2013 academic year.
Led by Professors Amanda McVety (history) and José Amador (Latin American studies), next year's Altman Scholars will participate in an interdisciplinary faculty seminar on "The Human and the Nonhuman: Exploring Intersections between Science and the Humanities."
During the year, Marchant will present some of her research on campus, link part of her course content and discussion to the program, and to help plan events around the theme.
