Internships

The American Studies Program is affiliated with a number of local, regional, and national institutions that offer opportunities for internships including the McGuffy Museum, the Oxford Museum Association, The Butler County Historical Society, the Cincinnati Historical Society, Colonial Williamsburg, and the Smithsonian Institution, among many others Students can sign up for an internship (AMS 340) with a local or regional institution during the academic year, or they can participate with national internship programs around the country for credit during the summer sessions. Students can also sign up for independent study courses (AMS 377, AMS 477), honors thesis (AMS 480), and internship credits (AMS 340). In order to register for an internship, independent study, or honors thesis, you will need to fill out an Independent Study Permit Form available in the programs office or from the registrar. Faculty in American Studies would be happy to talk with you about the courses you are considering or possible internships or independent study projects.
