I
started law school at the University of
Toledo this fall after graduating from Miami
University in May of 2004. As an undergrad
at Miami, I majored in political science,
history, and American studies. It is the
AMS degree that I have found to be most
helpful in graduate school. Like law classes,
AMS courses at Miami are very analytical
in nature. Learning how to analyze readings
and effectively communicate my findings
as an undergrad, has put me at an advantage
amongst my law school classmates who had
more traditional undergraduate experiences.
In AMS, there are no facts; there are no
formulas or calculations a student can do
to come up with an answer. The only way
to reach an answer while studying an AMS
topic is to explore that topic from as many
angles as possible, eventually fleshing
out your own conclusion. The same can be
said of the study of law. The written, oral
and analytical skills that I developed in
the discussion-oriented classes at Miami,
have proved to be invaluable as I continue
my education and beyond. |
