Date: 12/03/07 Job Title: Dean, College of Arts and Sciences Institution: Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Daytona Beach, Florida Job Description: Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at its Daytona Beach, Florida, campus. The University seeks a dynamic, nationally recognized leader who will partner with faculty in maintaining and enhancing the quality and national prominence of our educational and research programs. Reporting to the Provost, the Dean is the senior academic and administrative officer of the college and is responsible for its strategic, operational, and financial leadership. The college has 91 full-time faculty teaching in the departments of Human Factors, Humanities and Social Sciences, Mathematics, and Physical Sciences. The college also has primary responsibility for the general education curriculum and is home to three ROTC programs. In addition to providing service courses for the entire campus, the college has more than 350 undergraduates majoring in Aerospace Studies, Communication, Engineering Physics, Space Physics, and Human Factors Psychology. The college also has graduate programs in Engineering Physics and Human Factors Psychology. Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must have a doctorate in a discipline within the College of Arts and Sciences, or in a closely related field and demonstrated effective leadership in an academic administrative position, preferably at the department head level or higher. Candidates must also have a record of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service commensurate with appointment as a tenured full professor. Desired Qualifications: Candidates must have the ability to achieve strategic educational and research goals, demonstrate success in resource development and financial management, recruit and retain faculty committed to excellence in teaching and scholarship and maintain the quality and viability of the curricula. Will also partner with other colleges in delivering academic programs and attracting students, particularly those from underrepresented groups. Candidates must have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to work collaboratively and productively in a culturally diverse environment, and a commitment to an open and participatory leadership style.
