Date: 11/09/07 Job Title: Assistant or Associate Professor of Liberal Studies, and Assistant Professorin Liberal Studies (2 openings) Institution: Grand Valley State University Department: Liberal Studies Department Job Description: Grand Valley State University has openings for two tenure-track positions: an assistant or associate professor of liberal arts and an assistant professor in liberal arts. The positions entail teaching three undergraduate courses per semester and active scholarship; summer Desired Qualifications: 1. (Assistant or Associate Professor of Liberal Studies) PhD in interdisciplinary humanities or social sciences with scholarly work that incorporates diverse perspectives, such as sexualities, ethnicities and/or global perspectives, and the ability to bring those perspectives to liberal studies courses. Desire someone with experience incorporating civic engagement in coursework. Interdisciplinary program and curriculum development experience a plus. 2. (Assistant Professor in Liberal Studies) Substantial background in the theory and practice of liberal education, experience teaching interdisciplinary courses required. Prefer experience in advising and working with student organizations. Both positions require PhD in hand or expected within the first semester of appointment, and require demonstrated teaching excellence in an interdisciplinary environment.
