Teleconference Video
Interdisciplinary Studies Today: Where Are We?

Have you ever wondered where you can fi nd authoritative answers to your questions about interdisciplinary studies? You may fi nd the answer you need in a video of the teleconference Interdisciplinary Studies Today: Where Are We? which has been added to the resources available on the AIS Web site.

In November 2005, a panel of experts representing the Association for Integrative Studies participated in a live teleconference beamed to 31 subscribing institutions across the United States and Canada. The AIS teleconference, transmitted via satellite and the World Wide Web, was intended to reach colleagues, who might not be familiar with the ongoing discourse regarding interdisciplinary studies, and address their questions. Participants also came from a number of veteran interdisciplinary studies programs.

The panel included Carolyn Haynes, Julie Thompson Klein, and William H. Newell, all past presidents of AIS. The presenters discussed the following questions during the fi rst hour of the conference (each section of the video can be accessed by clicking on the following links):

  • What is interdisciplinary study?

The feedback AIS has received suggests that the conference was indeed timely and valuable to the participants, meeting a number of diverse needs, ranging from faculty development to establishing credibility for interdisciplinary studies as a legitimate academic endeavor on a specifi c campus. A DVD of the teleconference was provided to each subscribing institution.

Immediately after the teleconference, additional copies of the DVD were available for purchase, but now for the fi rst time a QuickTime video of the teleconference has been added to the AIS Web site so viewers can access the presentation at no charge. AIS still has a few DVDs available for purchase for those who want their own copies. The cost is $50 for institutions and libraries, $35 for non-members and $25 for regular and student members.
