The AIS Fall Conference "Our New Kentucky Home"-The AIS conference for next fall has been moved from Stockton State College to Eastern Kentucky University.

Interdisciplinary General Education at Eastern Kentucky University-This article features the three interdisciplinary departments in the institution that hosts the next AIS conference.
Watauga College U.N. Core Curriculum-Peter Petschauer and Jay Wentworth designed a program to help the students? ?history-anxiety? by using the United Nations as a model for intercultural discussion but project it into various historical epochs.
News in Brief-
  • From the Board of Directors of AIS thanks goes to Ray Miller on behalf of the membership for his herculean labors and fine judgment in putting together the program for the San Francisco conference.
  • First Eastern regional meeting of the National Association for Ethnic Studies in October at Pace University in New York City. Theme: Ethnic Identity, Visions & Revisions.
  • The 5th annual (3rd international) conference on Critical Thinking and Education Reform to be held at the Center for Critical Thinking and Moral Critique at Sonoma State University.
  • AIS has now started offering workshops or providing consultants on IDS for institutions interested in developing interdisciplinary courses or programs.
Network Kiosk -PEDAGOGY/POLITICS NETWORK: Plans are going forward for a participative workshop on the problems of interdisciplinary programs in traditional colleges and universities

Network Kiosk-AIS members should take special note of two network events at the forthcoming conference at Eastern Kentucky University: The Philosophy and Pedagogy/Politics networks.
Future of Interdisciplinary Studies and the Association For Integrative Studies, These remarks were delivered at the Feb. ?84 AIS conference at Miami University by Ray Miller, who will assume the AIS Presidency later this month at the next AIS con ference.
SUNY-Potsdam?s School-Within-the-School, A description is given for this experimental, interdisciplinary general education core program of the State University College of New York at Potsdam, by Robert Keesey

  • Philip Valley, active member of the AIS philosophy network, assigned headmaster of Woodside Priory School in Portola Valley, CA.
  • The NY regional meeting of the National Association for Ethnic Studies at Pace University no longer conflicts with the AIS conference.
  • The widely-distributed position paper of the National Association for Core Curriculum Core Today: Rationale and Implications is now available in its third edition.
  • AIS is sponsoring a select guide of undergraduate interdisciplinary programs in the U.S.

Essay Review of Habits of the Heart: Individualism and Commitment in American Life by Robert N. Bellah, Richard Madsen, William N. Sullivan Ann Swidler and Steven M. Tipton. -Review by Thomas Murray
Report on the Recent AIS Conference at EKU-The 1985 AIS conference was a rousing success. It was well attended and over 115 registered for the conference, including four college presidents and a half dozen students from three campuses.
Bowling Green site of next AIS Conference-The 1986 AIS conference will be held in November at Bowling Green, (OH) State University?s newly refurbished University Union. Program committee to include Beth Casey, Elaine Kleiner and Mark Blum.
AIS Election Results-Names and positions are given for the year 1986.
Job Opening at Holy Cross announced-Position announced for position of Director of the Office of Special Studies.
Pedagogy/Politics Network Revived-Eighteen people attended the two meetings of the network at the EKU conference. Karl Kregor (Trinity U., TX) was elected network coordinator replacing Michael Field, (Bemidji St.)
Student Network Formed-Major outgrowth of the ?85 EKU conference was the formation of a student network within AIS, called the Student Associated Network of the Association for Integrative Studies or SANAIS.

Call for Manuscripts for Issues-Deadline given for manuscripts to be considered for publication in the fourth volume of Issues in Integrative studies is January 15, 1986.
