Cadet Profiles: Zach (AS 700)

Zach photoHi! I'm Zach. In ROTC terms I am an AES 300. During my senior year of high school I applied for an ROTC scholarship and was fortunate to receive one, which enabled me to attend Miami University as a mechanical engineering student.

The biggest adjustment for me when transitioning from high school to college life was managing my work load. I had to get used to the many more hours spent on studying and doing homework than in high school.

So far, I have had a great time in ROTC. Yes, it has been a little bit of work outside of the standard school curriculum, but the leadership experiences I have gained are proving to be very beneficial. I am a lot more confident as a leader and feel that I am more prepared for many different situations that may arise.

For extracurricular activities, I spend some time working, doing service projects with Arnold Air Society (an honorary service organization through AFROTC), and flying. I am almost finished with my private pilot's license and flying has always been my main passion.

Wanting to be a pilot in the Air Force was my main reason for joining AFROTC. I find out next spring if I get a pilot's slot, which would be the best news of my life! Well, I wish you the best of luck!
