Detachment 640, Air Force ROTC
at Miami University
Cadet Profiles: Nicole (AS 300)
I am currently enrolled in AES122, the Air Force class required for freshman in AFTROTC. I am an English Education major and have been in the ROTC program for 2 semesters. Through ROTC, I have not only become a better cadet, but a better person as well. It really requires me to examine my personal discipline and how I work with others, because ROTC is about making individual qualities thrive in team situations.
I am constantly paying more attention to detail throughout both my school and everyday life. I not only find myself using the proper customs and courtesies just to those inside of ROTC but also those people in my life outside of the Air Force, who should be recognized with respect.
At Miami University, I am currently involved in many other activities besides ROTC. I am a member of the Phi Sigma Pi National Honors fraternity, Campus Crusade for Christ, The National Council for Teachers of Education, and the Scholar-Leader program. I am also I member of the National, Honorary, and service organization in AFROTC, Arnold Air Society.
The biggest adjustment moving from high school to college was learning to manage my time effectively.
The biggest adjustment moving from high school to college was learning to manage my time effectively. In high school, I was in school for 7 hours a day, 5 days a week. In college, on some days I only have 2 hours of class, and learning to use that time in the middle of the day efficiently has been one of the biggest benefits in college.
I am not exactly sure what I want to do in the Air Force. I am currently looking more into the Office of Special Investigations (OSI) career field. My dream job would to be able to teach at the Air Force Academy or an AFROTC detachment.
