Cadet Profiles: James (AS 400)

James photoMy name is Jim and I'm an AS400 here at Miami. Outside of ROTC, I'm a Diplomacy and Foreign Affairs Major. Also, I am a member of the Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity. While most cadets choose not to join fraternities or sororities, there are quite a few of us who have. I can honestly tell you that these two organizations have been the bedrock of my development here at college.

I signed up for ROTC after my orientation just to try it out to see if I liked it. By the end of my first day of training I knew I was in the right place and haven't looked back since. In addition to teaching me how to become a future leader of the Air Force, ROTC has given me many opportunities.

As a detachment, we've visited Robins and Whiteman Air Force Bases to learn about active duty life. This past summer I went to Nellis AFB in Las Vegas for 3 weeks. During my training there I met cadets from across the nation who I have kept in touch with throughout this year.

Also, being a member of Air Force ROTC's honorary service organization, the Arnold Air Society, I was able to attend the National Conclave in Phoenix, AZ, where over 400 cadets gathered to guide the future of our organization. The best part of it was that the Air Force paid for my airline ticket!

I guess what I’m trying to say is that Air Force ROTC is a program that gives you amazing opportunities to truly prove yourself to both your superiors and yourself. I would never trade the experiences I have had or the friends I have made in ROTC for anything. I hope to see you next year!
