Educational Licensures::
 

Undergraduate Educational Licensure Areas:

·        Early Childhood Education: Prepares students for licensure in grades PreK-3. Includes courses in teaching reading, language arts, science, mathematics, and social studies as
well as background courses in music, health, art, physical education, and working with families and communities. In addition, students take a concentration of courses in
literacy. All coursework focuses on education and the child.

 

·        Middle Childhood Education: Prepares students for licensure in 2 of 4 areas (language arts, science, mathematics, social studies) in grades 4 through 9. Includes coursework specific to the two areas chosen and methods coursework.

 

·        Adolescent to Young Adult Education: Prepares students for licensure in junior and high schools (grades 7 through 12) in the following areas:

                   Integrated English Language Arts Education: Prepares students to teach writing, literature, grammar, usage, speech, media, and journalism by studying literature, linguistics, writing, and education methodology/pedagogy.

          Integrated Mathematics Education: Prepares students to teach all areas of mathematics by studying calculus, linear algebra, geometry, abstract algebra, computers and math software, statistics, and education methodology/pedagogy.

Integrated Social Studies Education: Prepares students to teach social studies by studying history, geography, economics, anthropology, sociology, political science, and education methodology/pedagogy.

          Earth Science Education*: Prepares students to teach earth science by studying geology, chemistry, physics, statistics, botany, zoology, science and society, educational technology, psychology, school organization and the fundamental
principles, techniques, and materials of science teaching.

     Life Science Education*: Prepares students to teach life science by studying botany, zoology, microbiology, geology, chemistry, statistics, science and society, educational technology, psychology, and school organization as well as the fundamental principles, techniques, and materials of science teaching.

          Physical Science: Prepares students to teach physical science by studying chemistry, physics, calculus, botany or zoology, geology, science and society, educational technology, psychology, school organization and the fundamental principles, techniques, and materials of science teaching

          *Dual licensure programs are also available in Earth Science/Chemistry, Earth Science/Life Science, Earth Science/Physics, and Life Science/Physics.

·      Multi-Aged Licensure: Prepares students for teaching learners in grades pre-K through 12 in specific areas.

          Intervention Specialist Licensure: Prepares students to teach special education in 2 of 4 possible areas: Early Childhood, Mild/Moderate, Moderate/Intensive, and Gifted. The Early Childhood Intervention Specialist can teach children from preschool to grade 3. The Mild/Moderate, Moderate/Intensive, and Gifted Intervention Specialist can teach children in grades K-12.

                    Foreign Language: Prepares students for teaching French, German, Latin, and/or Spanish.

          Health Education: Prepares students to specialize in child and adolescent health through a carefully planned program that emphasizes knowledge about healthy living that promotes healthy social behavior.

                    Physical Education: Prepares students for teaching physical education through skilled teaching performance and reflection/analysis of students’ teaching abilities that emphasizes the intellectual meanings of performance and physical experiences.
