Activity Classes (PALS)
School of Education, Health, and Society
Looking for an opportunity to learn a new activity or brush up your skills on a current one?
Each year, more than 5,000 Miami students sign up for a Physical Activity Lifeskills Program (PALS) course. Whether it be tennis, ballet, weight training, rock climbing, horseback riding, social dance or swimming, students gain knowledge that lasts a lifetime. In all, PALS offers 30 courses each semester.

Goals of PALS:
- Prepare and encourage students to engage in a lifetime of activity and wellness.
- Educate students about good health, the importance of bodily movement, psychological aspects of exercise, preventative care and good nutrition.
- Provide fun and an academic setting for students to interact with others outside of their own majors.
- Educate students on how to recreate.
- Teach activities that are safe for our communities.
- Teach about how sport and physical activity are organized and how they can impact/affect our culture.
- Provide an educational setting outside the classroom.
- Connect physical activity to the overall educational experience of the student.
The typical class size is approximately 30 students. Most courses are taught by KNH graduate assistants. Here’s a list of the typical offerings:
