Study Abroad
School of Education, Health, and Society
International opportunities abound for Miami students. At KNH we encourage our students to consider spending a semester or a summer in another country. In fact, the department offers two overseas summer courses. Students who have participated have told us the experience was among the high points of their Miami career.

May 10-June 4, 2011
Students live and study in Nepal and Tibet for a month and receive 6-8 hours of undergraduate or graduate credit. Miami seniors can receive capstone credit. Learn more.
We will visit Nepal and Tibet for a month. We will live with a group of Sherpa as we hike up to Mt. Everest Base Camp and Kala Pathar at about 18,000 feet.

Students (undergraduate/graduate) enroll in either KNH 499/599 or SOC 499/599 class for a total of 6-8 credit hours. Seniors at Miami University can receive Miami plan capstone credit for the program.
During the trip each student will speak with Sherpa daily and learn about how the Sherpa live including their health care, diet, role of the family, religion etc.
Additionally we will monitor everyone’s blood oxygenation levels as we ascend the mountain and examine physiological adaptations that our bodies make at altitude.
Graduate and undergraduate students must enroll in the following course:
KNH or SOC 499/599 – Life at Altitude
