Scholarly Interests :
Our current research is focused on identifying the proper amount and type of physical activity and exercise that can effectively reduce the risk for disease development. Currently, we are interested in how women metabolize carbohydrates and fats for energy when exposed to different exercise and nutritional interventions. Our research questions are centered on the role of excess weight and body fat in women and the influence of such on whole body carbohydrate and fat oxidation. We are also interested in how restructuring the environment in elementary and middle schools can increase physical activity and exercise, enhance health, decrease weight gain, and improve academic performance in children.
