Scholarly interests:
Ethics in sports, particularly deontological ethics, the possibility of intrinsic value in sports (e.g., the theory of games – not to be confused with game-theory), the ethics of competition, performance enhancement, genetic interventions, concepts of exploitation and their applications within sports (e.g., the confluence of capitalist markets and sports), interspecies sports, competing ethical theories of coaching, et cetera. I am also interested in the sociocultural analysis of sports, especially ethnic, socioeconomic, gendered, and sexed studies of sports; as well sports histories, generally. I like to cultivate what C. Wright Mills called “the sociological imagination;” studying sport in context and in juxtaposition with our own moral agency in order to exact meaningful change locally, nationally, even globally, depending upon our relative positions.
Courses Taught:
KNH 378 – Sport, Power and Inequality
KNH 4/553a – Sports Marketing
