Thank you for your interest in Miami University¹s Department of Kinesiology and Health (KNH). The information in our website can introduce you to the rich history of the department that began over 120 years ago. In the early days of Miami University, the department¹s focus on physical activity changed to athletics where the tradition of the ³Cradle of Coaches² began in 1925. The department continues its alliances with intercollegiate sports and has also developed excellent programs of study in Athletic Training, Exercise Science, Health Promotion, Nutrition and Dietetics, as well as Sport Studies.

Departments at other universities also focus on the study of health and physical activity. What sets us apart is our emphasis on undergraduate education. While we offer two highly regarded master¹s programs, the vast number of our students are undergraduates. Miami faculty work with students in national and international teaching, research, and service projects, giving students the hands-on experiences that prepare themselves for exciting and rewarding careers in health and sports related fields. Even as a first-year student you will have the opportunity to be taught by and work alongside faculty who are renowned teachers and scholars with international reputations. Our inclusion of societal and cultural forces that affect health and performance provides important perspectives that complement students¹ understanding about health disparities and performance differences.

Phillips Hall, our headquarters, recently underwent a multi-million dollar renovation, and we now enjoy state-of-the-art classrooms and laboratory facilities. I hope you will visit us to see and meet our faculty and students. In the meantime please explore our site to learn more about our programs.
