The Psychological Focus does not require a teaching license. With a background in psychology, education, sociology, family studies, or other relevant field, you can obtain concentrated study in 1) Human Development and Learning Option, 2) Self-Focused Option--with advisor approval, you may concentrate in another educational psychology area, such as measurement and evaluation. You may complete the masters with one year of full time study or pursue the degree as a part time student. This focus provides students a chance to extend their knowledge and skills in their present positions, become prepared to assume master teacher roles or move to assessment or research-related positions, or to examine areas of special psychological concern.
The Educational Focus enables students to obtain an intervention specialist licensure in the Mild/Moderate area of Special Education. At the present time the program is being offered in an online blended learning program, both online and in monthly face-to-face meetings. Students who already hold a certification in general education or a licensure in some area of education may complete the Mild/Moderate licensure area in approximately 1 ½ years and the full master’s program within approximately 2 years. Students who do not hold another certificate/license may take slightly longer to complete the master’s program with licensure (approximately 2 to 2 ½ years, depending on whether they are full time or part time students.
Financial Aid
Presently employed teachers may qualify for TEAM scholarships. Students may still qualify for a Federal student loan, even if they receive a TEAM scholarship. Financial aid through graduate assistantships (including monthly cash stipend, waiver of instructional fees and out-of-state surcharge) is also available on a competitive basis for each year of on-campus residence. Application for graduate assistantships must be received by February 1 of the year before the fall entry period.
