PRAXIS I
Praxis I is required for admittance into some of Miami's Teacher Preparation or Other School Personnel Programs. See program advisor for more information. It is a test of basic competency in reading (minimum score 173), writing (minimum score 172), and math (minimum score 172).
PRAXIS II
The Praxis II Series consists of two or more assessments depending on the licensure area of each candidate. Students will need to refer to click here or go to the ETS website to find out the specific name and code number of each required test. All students will take a Praxis test that measures their content knowledge and a Praxis PLT (Practices of Learning and Teaching).
The Praxis II PLT assessment measures a pre-service teacher’s knowledge of classroom practices and working with children. Many resources for test preparation are available on the Internet. A few of these are listed below. Check the School of Education and Allied Professions website below for Praxis workshops that are offered throughout the school year. A study guide for the PLT test is also available at this website.

Praxis Overview
None of these is an alternative to a significant study and effort prior to taking the Praxis assessments.
You may also find ETS PLT study guides at the library, the ETS website and bookstores. Test preparation products may be purchased online at a variety of online sources.
Praxis II may be taken numerous times until passed.
Praxis III: Classroom Performance Assessments
Praxis III: Classroom Performance Assessments comprise a system for assessing the skills of beginning teachers in classroom settings. ETS developed Praxis III for use in teacher licensing decisions made by states or local agencies empowered to license teachers. Under the guidelines that govern its use, Praxis III may not be used for the purpose of making employment decisions about teachers who are currently licensed.
This assessment typically takes place during the spring of a teacher’s first year of teaching. If the teacher is unsuccessful during this first attempt, they are able to take the test again in the second year during the fall or spring. |
