Bob has been teaching in the Early Childhood Education program area at Miami University since August 2005. He previously taught in the Department of Elementary Education at Ball State University for eleven years. Before earning his Ph.D. in Curriculum Studies and Language Education at Indiana University-Bloomington in 1993, Bob devoted thirteen years to teaching every level from Kindergarten to Fifth Grade in the public schools of Selah and Ellensburg, WA. Prior to his career in education, Bob served for several years as a milieu therapist in a residential treatment center as well as a probation officer in the Chicago area, where he grew up.
In his work at Miami, Bob pursues a combined teaching, research and service agenda addressing the educational aspects of a more expansive, interdisciplinary field of theory and practice referred to as school mental health. Throughout every stage of his 35-year professional career—first as a frontline provider in human services, then as a teacher in grades K-5, and currently as a teacher educator—Bob has intuitively recognized the importance of approaching his work from holistic and ecological perspectives focused on the uniqueness of each individual person.
If Bob has ever been fortunate enough to intersect with your life, he wants you to know that you are always welcome to contact him in McGuffey Hall on the Miami University campus. Our shared journey of learning about the Meaning of Life will never end....
