Description
of Program
The
Exercise Science major is designed to give breadth and
depth of knowledge in the physiological and behavioral
factors that effect health and performance. Coursework
emphasizes health and performance benefits and consequences
of regular physical activity on physiological, psychological,
cellular, and motor integrity. Students in this major have
a strong interest in chemistry, physics, physiology, and
anatomy, for these subjects are foundational in the scientific
analysis of exercise and sport performance.
The
program prepares students for careers in the health and
fitness industry, health promotion, rehabilitation, research
and development, and clinical aspects of the allied health
field. This major is also appropriate for students interested
in preparing for professional programs in physical or occupational
therapy, medicine, physician assistant, or chiropractic.
